Cliffhanger, the 1993 stunt-heavy thriller that helped revive Sylvester Stallone's career, has been added to free streaming as part of a June update. Stallone had been facing a series of critical disappointments in the early '90s when he branched out into other genres, and this film brought him back into the world of action.

Directed by Renny Harlin and written by Michael France and Stallone, the movie follows search-and-rescue ranger Gabe Walker as he is forced to help criminals escape the snowy mountains with a load of cash. Produced with a $70 million budget, Cliffhanger grossed $255 million and became one of the year's highest-grossing films.

Discussions about a sequel—originally planned to be set at Hoover Dam—never came to fruition. A new reboot has been announced with Jaume Collet-Serra directing and Pierce Brosnan and Lily James starring; it has no relation to the 1993 original except for the title, and Stallone is not involved even as a producer.
