Ned Luke, the actor who plays Michael in Grand Theft Auto 5, was swatted during a Thanksgiving livestream in 2023. He posted an Instagram message with a photo of a Department of Justice letter he said resolved the case, writing: "Don't drop the soap in the shower douchebag" and "Won't be swatting anyone anytime soon...and they're coming for the ones he ratted out as well." Swatting—the act of reporting a violent crime in progress at someone's house to trigger a large police response—is dangerous as well as disruptive.

The 2017 swatting of Andrew Finch in Wichita, Kansas ended with Finch being shot and killed when police arrived, and Tyler Barriss, who initiated that call, received a 20-year prison sentence. Luke has been targeted multiple times.
