Superman and Supergirl’s First Meeting Is Cute and Awkward

Supergirl is Superman’s older cousin, but her ship was caught in suspended animation, so Clark lived many years on Earth before she arrived. When they first meet he is a grown man and she is a young woman whose people have been gone for decades. A clip shows Superman (David Corenswet) finding Kara (Milly Alcock) in her pod near the Fortress of Solitude.

A language barrier slows them—Clark doesn’t speak Kryptonian—but he tries to communicate with her and Krypto, her superpowered dog. Kara’s lines are subtitled, and amid taking everything in she wonders why Superman is in his underwear; as she soaks up the sun Clark tells her her powers are about to kick in.

The scene plays as awkward charm, with Corenswet’s Superman doing his best under difficult circumstances. Alcock briefly appeared in last year’s Superman, and even in a few seconds her antihero spirit came through. Supergirl is coming to theaters on June 26, and will follow Kara’s intergalactic journey to save Krypto, who will die in three days if she can’t put a stop to it.
