The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has overtaken Disney's Zootopia 2 at the U.S. box office, reaching a domestic gross of $429 million to Zootopia 2's $428 million. The Universal–Nintendo sequel also holds a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes and has continued to draw audiences despite already premiering on streaming.

Internationally, the picture is different: Zootopia 2 remains far ahead overseas with $1.4 billion compared with the Mario sequel's $575 million. Released April 1, 2026, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie appeared on digital platforms such as Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video on May 19 and has ranked among the top titles — #4 on Amazon's digital store and #7 on Apple TV.

There's no confirmation for a subscription debut yet, but as a Universal Pictures movie it is expected to premiere on Peacock later this summer. Animation continues to dominate box office results. Since 2024, films like Inside Out 2 and 2025's Ne Zha 2 — which grossed $2.2 billion — have led yearly charts.
