For decades, Disney's 1994 film The Lion King stood as the studio's highest-grossing hand-drawn animated feature, earning $763.5 million in its initial run and $979,161,632 over multiple re-releases, including an IMAX run in 2002, a 3-D release in 2011 and a 30th anniversary presentation in 2024.

Aladdin remains a distant second with $504,050,219 worldwide. Released April 1, 2026, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has now surpassed The Lion King, moving into the 61st spot on the all-time list. Made with vibrant, high-end CGI, the sequel to the 2023 Super Mario Bros.

Movie opened to $372.6 million and has reached a worldwide total of $992,679,925. Early projections had the follow-up on pace to hit $1 billion by the end of May, but its momentum slowed amid a crowded release slate. Despite that, it is still expected to become 2026's first billion-dollar movie.
