The Sui Foundation applied a major upgrade to fix issues that caused three recent outages, leaving the blockchain offline for more than 15 hours across two days. Sui experienced an outage on Thursday that lasted nearly six hours, and two more on Friday: the first of those lasted eight hours and 25 minutes, the second 43 minutes.

All systems were listed as operational as of Monday. In a blog post the foundation said the upgrade resolves the bugs that caused the outages and highlighted areas for improvement, including better failure containment, end-of-epoch resilience and further investment in artificial intelligence agents.

Those AI agents helped with diagnoses, querying validator logs and assembling metrics. The outages were traced to crash bugs introduced in the 1.72 software release. One bug affected gas charging, causing the network to charge funds before cancelling transactions for insufficient balances and producing negative balances that crashed the system.
