Studio MDHR Announces Two New Cuphead Games, Including 8‑Bit Shooter
Studio MDHR showed up at Summer Game Fest with puppets and the news that it is making two new Cuphead games. The first was described only as “a new, hand-animated Cuphead” — no title, no release window and no footage; development appears to have only recently begun.
The second title, Mighty Cuphead Adventure, is an 8-bit platform shooter that revisits some of the original game’s territory. Cuphead and Mugman star again, and the game features bosses that look familiar to fans of the first game. Developers say Mighty Cuphead Adventure was created as a tribute to ’80s games: it was programmed in classic Assembly Language and designed to the specifications of the Sega Master System.
It will come to modern consoles and PC, and there will also be a physical Sega Master System cartridge for anyone who still has that hardware. No release window was announced, with PR promising more news in the months to come. Cuphead first launched in 2017 and later received multiple ports and a large DLC, The Delicious Last Course, in 2022.
