Streets of Rage Movie Adds Sonic Writers, Jeymes Samuel to Direct

Pat Casey and Josh Miller, the writers behind the Sonic the Hedgehog films, have signed on to pen Lionsgate’s adaptation of the 1990s beat ’em up Streets of Rage, with Jeymes Samuel attached to direct. Derek Kolstad, who wrote an earlier draft, is stepping down from the writer’s chair but will remain involved as a producer.

Lionsgate has pursued a Streets of Rage film since 2022, after acquiring the rights alongside its Sonic projects and Amazon’s upcoming Life is Strange series. Casey and Miller co-wrote all three Sonic movies and are currently working on a fourth, and they are also attached to Violent Night 2.

Samuel is best known for the BAFTA-winning Western The Harder They Fall and the biblical comedic drama The Book of Clarence. Lionsgate film chief Erin Westerman praised his fit for the project: "We and our partners at Sega knew that 'Streets of Rage' demanded a bold filmmaker.
