Strange New Worlds' season 1 finale disproves Enterprise refit theory
Some fans have argued that a later refit explains why the USS Enterprise looks different in Strange New Worlds compared with The Original Series, but that idea no longer holds up. The visual gap can be chalked up to the obvious passage of time and advances in production values, yet one particular theory kept being treated as possible despite the evidence.
Strange New Worlds' season 1 finale, "A Quality of Mercy," retells the events of The Original Series' "Balance of Terror" with a temporal twist, placing Captain Pike still in command of the Enterprise rather than Kirk. Both episodes are set in 2266, and the alternate timeline shows the Enterprise exactly as it appears in Strange New Worlds—demonstrating there is no refit between the series and The Original Series.
The ship does receive a major overhaul, but that occurs later in the timeline.
