Steven Spielberg's $260 Million Sci-Fi Thriller Ready for a Comeback on Streaming

Released in 2011, Super 8 was directed by J.J. Abrams and co-produced by Steven Spielberg through Amblin Entertainment. Blending elements of E.T., The Goonies and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the coming-of-age sci-fi thriller grossed $260 million and became a nostalgic favorite.

Starring Elle Fanning, Joel Courtney, Riley Griffiths, Gabriel Basso and Kyle Chandler, the film is set in the fictional town of Lillian, Ohio. A group of teenagers making a zombie movie witness a massive train derailment that sets off unexplained events and a monstrous cover-up, while the story explores first love, friendship and the pressures of growing up.

Audiences gave Super 8 a 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and critics rated it Certified Fresh at 81%. The film compared favorably with Disclosure Day, which holds a 70% rating on the Popcornmeter and an 80% critic score.
