Steven Spielberg and George Lucas came up in the same generation of filmmakers and have a long, occasionally collaborative friendship. Their partnership stretches back to the Indiana Jones films, and Spielberg was the one who put Lucas in touch with composer John Williams.

The Star Wars prequel trilogy traces Anakin Skywalker’s descent into Darth Vader, with Revenge of the Sith delivering the trilogy’s most dramatic payoff. Those films arrived later because Lucas waited for the technology he felt was necessary, and Revenge of the Sith is often considered the strongest of the three.

Spielberg contributed to Revenge of the Sith during pre-visualization, overseeing several sequences without taking over direction. He reviewed action set pieces, including the final duel and portions of the Order 66 sequence, and his input helped sharpen the movie’s sci‑fi action.
