Stellar Blade boss says he 'struggled' with Eve, vows defined Evie in Blood Rain
Hyung-Tae Kim, head of Stellar Blade developer Shift Up and chief of the sequel Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, admits he wrestled with the first game's lead. "When making the first game, I struggled with the [main] character Eve – specifically, whether to leave the character as a blank slate for player empathy or to fill her with personality." The result, the article argues, was "a dull, wooden, empty character who felt like a consequence of the story rather than someone propelling it." Eve's lack of observable motivations and morals helped make Stellar Blade's story feel rudderless, a problem the writer calls the main area for improvement in a sequel.
