Steam’s LGBTQ+ tag reportedly blocked in China
Social media posts say the “LGBTQ+” tag has been banned on Steam in China. Users who tried to open the tag’s page in the Chinese region reportedly received an error saying the content was flagged as “inappropriate” and “violates local laws and regulations.” A post on Weibo (machine translated) warned developers: “Steam has now locked the LGBTQ+ tag in the Chinese region.
Reverse searches no longer show the game.” A ResetEra user named Neha detailed that when attempting to manually search for the LGBTQ+ tag with a Steam account registered in China, the platform returned the following message: “An error occurred while processing your request: The content on this page has been identified as inappropriate because it violates local laws and regulations, and therefore cannot be viewed from your current location.” Valve has not issued a statement or confirmed the claims.
