Steam Machine reviews split on price and performance
After a long wait thanks to the ongoing RAM crisis, the Steam Machine is finally ready for launch. Valve's console-like PC will begin shipping next week, with the base 512GB model priced at $1,049 and a 2TB bundle that includes a Steam Controller listed at $1,428.
Early reviews suggest a tentative answer: maybe, if you have some disposable income. IGN gave the device an 8/10, praising its plug-and-play approach and simple setup that gets you into games quickly. Jacqueline Thomas highlighted the Steam Machine's Linux integration and the flexibility that comes from being "just a Linux PC that launches in Steam Big Picture mode, so the possibilities are basically endless." Benchmarks have exposed the limits of that flexibility for cutting-edge gaming.
Digital Foundry found Cyberpunk 2077 averaging 64 fps at 1440p while Crimson Desert averaged 27 fps at the same resolution.
