State of Decay 3 gameplay reveal and release window announced

Undead Labs unveiled new gameplay for State of Decay 3 at the Xbox showcase and said the game will arrive in 2027. Creative director Kevin Patzelt said everything shown in the trailer was gameplay. Footage included lots of zombies, weapons, and safe human settlements — elements players can expect to test when playtests go live.

Undead Labs opened sign-ups for a public playtest in April, though Xbox did not announce dates for it at the showcase. The playtest will feature four-player co-op along with new base-building and resource strategies, and the studio will retain the sign-up list so people who miss initial tests might join future alphas.

Until now the studio focused on rolling out updates to State of Decay 2 while making progress on the sequel; development on State of Decay 3 is now advancing in earnest.
