Six years after Blizzard said it would stop producing new content for StarCraft 2 in October 2020, the studio has continued to issue balance tweaks and updates. A new patch aims to "extend the early and mid-game experience, allowing players to remain competitive on one to three bases for longer periods," and introduces changes intended to make non-warped Gateway play more viable while increasing strategic diversity across the three races.

The headline change cuts starting workers from 12 to 8. Fans on the StarCraft 2 subreddit have generally welcomed the move—GoGoGoRL called it "a breath of fresh air," and Appletank said it forces "harsher compromises in builds" that increase the need to scout and lengthen mid-game supply ranges.
