Star Wars Unlimited's Icons mini-set targets new and returning players
The Star Wars Unlimited trading card game is getting a new mini-set called Icons, designed to appeal to newcomers and players returning after a break. It is scheduled to debut sometime between now and July's Ashes of the Empire set. A press release and discussions at this year's UK Games Expo explained the aim: Icons streamlines the experience by not introducing new mechanics or the major changes from recent expansions, instead focusing on core Star Wars Unlimited gameplay.
The set is meant to be a baseline version of the game, positioned above the simplified Intro Battle: Hoth boxed set for complete TCG newcomers. Established players may still want to pick it up. Icons keeps competitive power levels, brings back some cards that have rotated out, and adds all-new Rare and Legendary character cards, including a hard-hitting Anakin Skywalker that can search decks for a Darth Vader card once defeated and ignores aspect penalties on Darth Vader cards while Anakin is in the discard pile.
