Star Fox remake is a glossy update to a familiar classic
Nintendo has shared an overview trailer ahead of Star Fox’s Switch 2 debut later this month, and several early previews from hands-on time have appeared. The remake of the Nintendo 64 title applies an HD coat to the original, and players have demoed some of the early missions as well as a new 4v4 battle mode.
Reviews are split on the promise of the updated multiplayer, which includes a mode where teams fight over cargo they’re trying to retrieve. The overall impression is that Nintendo has modernized one of its all-time greats while keeping the underlying formula mostly unchanged.
Notable changes include animated cutscenes between levels instead of static mission briefings, which can change pacing, and improved voice acting that brings more depth to the characters and the worldbuilding. VGC notes that Fox McCloud and company come across more like rogue operatives, with Falco portrayed as more antagonistic than before.
