Square Enix calls Final Fantasy 7 Revelation battle system 'perfected'
Square Enix called Final Fantasy 7 Revelation's combat "perfected" at this year's Summer Game Fest. Remake revived the original turn-based system by giving direct control over the squad and a pause-and-queue mechanic to set up powerful combos, and Rebirth pushed that forward with several tweaks and a new pairing ability for devastating synergy attacks.
Revelation will add a "FIT" system where different outfits determine skills — Tifa, for example, can don robes and ignite enemies as a black mage. Cid and Vincent join the party; Vincent can transform into a violent beast and pick up Cid to let him smash enemies with his polearm out of harm's way.
Those additions suggest combat may grow faster and demand more finesse as players face new monsters and Sephiroth. Square Enix stopped short of full detail on all changes, leaving further information for closer to release, but the preview impressed even observers who haven't played Rebirth.
