Final Fantasy 7 Revelation dominated discussion after Summer Game Fest 2026, but Final Fantasy Resonance — reworked from Brave Exvius and due October 22 — has stood out as a fresher direction for the series.

Resonance returns the franchise to turn-based combat and adopts the HD-2D style that defined Octopath Traveler and recent Dragon Quest remakes. HD-2D layers pixel art over 3D environments with modern lighting, shadows and higher-resolution details to add depth.

Brave Exvius has been stripped of its mobile trappings and expanded for release on PS5, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PC and Xbox Series X, putting the game in front of many more players.

The game appears to retain Exvius’s chain attack mechanic, adds open-world exploration both mounted and airborne, and includes an array of special moves and cameo characters. Different from classical titles like Final Fantasy 6, Resonance offers a turn-based, HD-2D take on the franchise.
