Acclaimed Spirited Away stage play heads to North America

The acclaimed stage adaptation of Spirited Away is set to come to North America as part of a 2026–2028 world tour. After debuting in Tokyo in 2022 and playing in London in 2024, the production will include stops in Los Angeles and Toronto. Spirited Away: Live on Stage will play Taiwan’s National Theater (December 2026 to January 2027), Tokyo and a Japan national tour (March to August 2027), the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto (May to August 2027), the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles (September to October 2027), and the London Coliseum (March to July 2028).

The production uses intricate puppetry, a company of 50 actors, and a live rendition of Joe Hisaishi’s theatrical score. Performances are in Japanese with English surtitles. Toho commissioned the play in 2021 and oversaw production; John Caird directed and adapted the script with Mako Imai, with Brad Haak arranging the score, Jon Bausor on set design, Toby Olié on puppet design, Shigehiro Ide on choreography, and Sachiko Nakahara on costumes.
