Spielberg and Koepp’s First Fully Original Film Is Disclosure Day
Disclosure Day marks Steven Spielberg's return to science fiction, his first since 2018's Ready Player One, and it represents a new wrinkle in his long collaboration with screenwriter David Koepp. Spielberg is credited with the story, while Koepp wrote the screenplay, and the film is entirely original rather than an adaptation, remake or sequel — despite some fan theories about a Close Encounters tie-in.
The pairing of Spielberg and Koepp is well established: Jurassic Park (1993), Jurassic Park: The Lost World (1997), War of the Worlds (2005) and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) preceded this fifth collaboration. Each of those projects had franchise or source-material connections, making Disclosure Day the first time the duo have produced a wholly original film together.
Koepp’s credits range from work on major franchises such as Spider-Man and Mission: Impossible to cult hits like Panic Room (2002) and Death Becomes Her (1992).
