Spider-Man Faces the Punisher in New Brand New Day Image
Spider-Man: Brand New Day picks up Peter Parker five years after the end of Jon Watts' trilogy, stripping the hero back to basics and away from Stark technology. A new image released online and shared by Empire Magazine shows Spider-Man running alongside Frank Castle as the Punisher fires a gun, underscoring the film’s turn toward street-level conflicts.
Frank Castle’s brutality stands in sharp contrast to the wall-crawling hero; the Punisher first appeared in a Spider-Man comic and has been depicted with even more violence on television, including the Punisher: One Last Kill special. Tom Holland has acknowledged concerns about toning the character down for what will likely be a PG-13 movie, noting, “There are fun ways to get around the fact that he swears all the time and kills people.” The first trailer already demonstrated one such workaround, with Spider-Man comically webbing Frank’s mouth before an expletive can be uttered.
