Spider-Man: Brand New Day synopsis teases an invisible ‘powerful villain’

The first official synopsis for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has appeared on the film’s website. "It's a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker," it begins, noting that fighting crime full-time in a world that doesn’t remember him — and watching his old friends move on — sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control.

The blurb also points to "a shocking new threat" and describes "a powerful villain no one can even see." That line has fuelled fan speculation, with some suggesting Sadie Sink could be playing Jean Grey in the next instalment; others note that something is up with Tramell Tillman's character, leaving room for a hidden antagonist.

The synopsis hints at a surprise "transformation" that might be the only thing capable of stopping the menace — Man-Spider is among the ideas fans have floated. A second trailer appears likely, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, and Sadie Sink, swings into cinemas on July 31.
