Sophia Wilson returned from maternity leave earlier this year and opened the scoring with a stunning second-minute finish in São Paulo, her first international goal since 2024. She troubled Brazil’s backline throughout and nearly doubled her tally in the second half.

Brazil replied quickly at the Neo Química Arena. Taina Maranhão levelled in the 11th minute with a back-post header after the U.S. defence failed to clear, and Zaneratto ran onto Dudinha’s pass before lifting her finish beyond Mandy McGlynn to make it 2-1. Mallory Swanson dressed for the USWNT for the first time since returning from parental leave, while Marta was available for Brazil, but both remained unused substitutes.

Trinity Rodman was quiet across 88 minutes, suffered an injury late in the contest and struggled to make her usual impact. The defeat extended the USWNT’s winless run in Brazil to four games and marked their second straight loss to the Brazilians; despite outshooting and outpossessing Brazil, the U.S.
