It's been nearly four years since God of War: Ragnarok, but the series is back with a new entry that shifts perspective toward Greek mythology. Santa Monica Studio revealed God of War Laufey in a 20-minute trailer during May's State of Play for PlayStation 5; Deborah Ann Woll will star as Faye (aka Laufey).

There's no release date yet, but the game appears well into development. The trailer opens with Faye's body burning as she ascends, then shows her waking in a decaying, otherworldly place full of unusual creatures. She seems to know what Kratos and Atreus are up to and rushes to help them, only to be attacked by freakish flower creatures; the combat is as brutal as you might expect.

A curious cosmic cube, voiced by Jack Quaid, guides Faye, who also journeys alongside a ribbon guardian named Rue, played by Perlina Lau. Santa Monica Studio says one top priority was handcrafting a fresh gameplay feel for Faye while meeting fans' expectations.
