Sonic the Hedgehog pinball table unveiled for 35th anniversary

Sega and Jersey Jack Pinball revealed an official Sonic the Hedgehog pinball table launching June 23, the franchise's first dedicated pinball machine. Veteran designer Steve Ritchie, known as the "King of Flow," led the project and calls it "the fastest game I've ever made" thanks to magnetized ramps that accelerate the ball at Sonic speeds.

The game includes Chaos Emeralds and a wide cast of characters — Sonic, Tails, Dr. Eggman, Shadow, Amy Rose, Big the Cat and Froggy — with levels based on classic Sonic themes and gameplay inspired by plungers and boosters from the original games. Presentation is modern rather than 16-bit, and the table features more than 6,000 spoken lines from voice actors, using Sonic's wiseguy attitude to drive newly recorded dialogue.

Physical touches include a golden ring plunger, Sonic and Eggman figures that smash into each other above the backglass, and a vibrant array of colored LEDs to highlight the playfield and gameplay goals.
