Sonic Gets a $10,000 Pinball Machine From Jersey Jack and Sega
Jersey Jack Pinball and Sega have teamed up on a Sonic the Hedgehog pinball machine that is already on sale from Jersey Jack in three different models. The release follows Stern’s Pokémon machine from February, reviving the classic Sega–Nintendo rivalry in the barcades and basements where pinball has thrived over the last decade.
The game leans into video-game elements: visuals and music from Sonic Generations, references to Green Hill Zone, and a Dr. Eggman toy suspended above the playfield for a boss battle. Small screens display spinning gold coins, a looping ramp echoes Sonic’s signature loops, and collecting enough chaos emeralds triggers a multiball mode.
Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Amy and other characters also appear throughout the playfield. Design duties went to Steve Ritchie, the pinball designer behind classics like Firepower, Black Knight and High Speed, and a run of modern machines for Stern in the 2010s; this is his second design for Jersey Jack after the Elton John game.
