Snap unveiled its Specs AR glasses with EyeConnect at a Long Beach conference, more than a decade after it began work. The glasses carry a $2,195 price tag and mark the company’s biggest bet yet on shifting computing from smartphones to eyewear, a vision echoed by Mark Zuckerberg that smart glasses could become the next major computing platform.

Wearers can record first-person footage, browse the web, and play games, and Specs include EyeConnect, which lets two wearers launch shared experiences by making eye contact. Each pair weighs around 132 grams, nearly twice the roughly 70 grams of Meta’s Ray-Bans.

The price is far higher than Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, which start around $350, though cheaper than Apple’s $3,500 Vision Pro headset. Some critics reacted sharply: "Snap Specs for $2,195 is an instant nope for 99% people," said Ray Wong. Raj Nijjer called the Specs "out of touch," while Riley Brown posted that the Specs would be "dead on arrival." The broader economics remain a problem.
