Slay the Spire 2 patch fixes RNG bug found after eight-hour test
Slay the Spire 2 has received a major balance patch that fixes a surprising RNG issue uncovered by a determined player. The update, credited to subreddit user tckmn for an "eight-hour descent into madness," also brings a wide range of balance tweaks and a new Act 3 boss.
The bug affected the Neow's Bones starting option, which gives two relics in exchange for a curse. Some curses, like Debt, can wreck a run, and the patch notes reveal certain starts were more likely to yield Debt. In particular, starting in the Underdocks made Neow's Curse 54% likely to be Debt.
Developers explain the cause as correlated PRNG seeds: decimals that governed Act 1 rolls also correlated with the Neow’s Bones curse roll, so act roll >0.5 often meant curse roll Balance changes hit several areas, with the Regent taking the biggest impact. Monarch's Gaze received a boost while Reflect was toned down.
