Slate’s $24,950 electric pickup is tiny, bare-bones, and highly customizable
Slate, a Jeff Bezos-backed startup, is bringing a bare-bones electric pickup to market with a starting price of $24,950. The company bills the truck as a blank slate buyers can build on and said more than 10,000 people placed nonrefundable $300 preorders in the first four hours after the website went live.
Slate expects the vehicle to reach US roads by the end of the year. The base model is deliberately minimal: two seats, a small bed, steel wheels, manual crank windows, no infotainment screen or interior speakers, and an estimated 205 miles of range. It does include cruise control, tactile controls, and air conditioning.
Slate plans to sell more than 200 accessories and add-ons — wraps, seat covers, roof racks, a stereo, interior tech, and even a custom key fob. Buyers can pick from over 100 wrap colors at launch, with wrap kits priced from $499.99 to $1,599 (installation not included).
