The Simpsons releases new animated short tied to Monopoly Go
The Simpsons has released a new animated short just under four minutes long that ties the show to the Monopoly Go! mobile game. It pairs Mr. Burns (Harry Shearer) with Mr. Monopoly, voiced by Will Ferrell, as the two compete over who wears their wealth with more style, hinting at the kind of dynamic that could play out in the game.
The short speed-runs a story pitting Burns against "'ole Monopoly," with flashbacks and deep-cut Monopoly lore — Burns uses the Monopoly Man's canonical surname, Pennybags, and a scene implies Burns helped establish some of the board's player pieces. While the short functions as an ad, it leaves room for Simpsons-style jokes, including a Real Housewives parody called "Real Rich Guys of Springfield," and treats Homer, Bart and others as pieces on the board.
Monopoly Go! is a spin-off mobile board game first released in 2023, described as a stripped-down, single-player loop where players start owning all properties and play for in-game money to upgrade landmarks.
