Should you let Mud join you in Gothic 1 Remake?
Mud in the Gothic 1 Remake is an annoying NPC who offers to join you, but there is no clear reason to let him follow. He feels like a joke character—similar to the Adoring Fan—and while he doesn’t harm you he doesn’t provide any real benefit either.
He will trail you and make an irritating comment roughly every couple of minutes; telling him to stop or to leave has no effect. Mud does not engage in combat or grant gameplay bonuses; occasionally enemies might attack him instead of you, but he does not fight back and simply runs around. His mentions of characters, plans and ideas are flavour only and do not influence quests, interactions or minigames.
The only way to get him to stop following is to attack him: a couple of hits will make him run back to his hut in the Old Camp, and you don’t have to kill him. If he dies he drops Water (1), Club (1) and Ore Nugget (5), and there are no negative results from killing him.
