Should Destiny 3 be a live service, a campaign, or something else?
With Destiny 2’s final update in place, the game feels fixed: no more FOMO, no need to re-grind gear, and the seasonal treadmill has ended. That shift removes the pressure to rush quests to be ‘raid ready’ or grind god rolls before they vanish, and for many players the relief is obvious.
Having played Destiny for most of my life—Destiny 1 arrived when I was in high school—contemplating what comes next feels especially poignant. Destiny’s live service era brought unceasing seasonal updates and yearly expansions, but it proved costly and hard to sustain.
Bungie attempted a predominantly PvE live service while content in that space often plays out as one-and-done, unlike endlessly queued multiplayer matches elsewhere, and fitting story arcs to a weekly cadence wasn’t ideal. People seem oddly happier with the game in its current, calmer state: new content is welcome, but the biggest gain is being able to play without constant pressure.
