The first trailer for Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, revealed during Summer Game Fest on June 5, set off alarm bells beyond suspicions about alleged use of GenAI; much of the reaction has focused on the child-like appearance of the sequel’s new protagonist, Evie. Shift Up CEO Hyung-tae Kim, who directed the original Stellar Blade in 2024, dismissed those complaints in an interview with IGN, saying Evie’s 'physical looks' are secondary to how 'lovable' she is.

He acknowledged that 'she is younger,' 'smaller in size' and 'shorter than Eve,' but added that she has a stronger personality, engages in tougher battles and is part of a special squad that chases a group of terrorists. Kim said players would feel differently once they 'actually play the game,' and argued that Evie’s personality, the way she talks and the way she fights will combine to make her 'a very lovable character.'
