Sheringham backs Liverpool sacking of Arne Slot, criticises Alonso miss
Teddy Sheringham said Liverpool were right to part ways with Arne Slot after a disappointing campaign that ended with the club in fifth. He argued that keeping the Dutch coach would have risked wasting another season and that the club needed a decisive call rather than starting a new campaign under a cloud.
Speaking to BOYLE Sports, Sheringham warned a damaging atmosphere had been developing at Anfield. "I think there was a toxic vibe developing at Liverpool with Arne Slot still at the club," he said, adding: "You can’t go into a season like that." Sheringham also pointed to the missed opportunity around Xabi Alonso’s availability, saying Liverpool should have acted sooner if they lacked full confidence in Slot.
He suggested the club could have secured Alonso while he was available and that missing that chance only added to the strange mood around Liverpool.
