Shearer backs Morgan Rogers over Jude Bellingham for England No.10

Former England striker Alan Shearer has urged manager Thomas Tuchel to start Morgan Rogers ahead of Jude Bellingham in the number 10 role, arguing that current form should trump reputation. Shearer pointed to Rogers’ match fitness and a European trophy as factors that could give him the edge heading into the World Cup.

"At the minute, Rogers has maybe just edged it. I mean Bellingham’s had one or two injury problems and Rogers has been able to go in there and do very well," he said. Rogers enjoyed a standout season, making 55 appearances across all competitions and contributing 14 goals and 12 assists as Aston Villa lifted the Europa League.

Shearer said he would pick a midfield trio featuring Rogers alongside Elliot Anderson and Declan Rice, adding that "Rogers has been fantastic. He’s a really, really talented guy.
