Shawn Hatosy says a 'The Pitt' night-shift spin-off is a "no-brainer"
Shawn Hatosy, who plays night-shift doctor Jack Abbot on The Pitt, said a spin-off focused on the night crew “I think it’s a no-brainer.” He added that he doesn’t want to weaken the main series but sees “a whole other universe in the night” and a clear “tone shift.” Hatosy also pointed to practical advantages, noting, “There’s also a crew and a set that’s sitting there while we’re off that could be utilized.
So — in my mind — I think it makes a lot of sense, of course.” The show’s night setting — a busy hospital where doctors barely have time to visit the bathroom or grab a snack — would let writers explore high-stakes cases while the rest of the city sleeps. It’s easy to imagine Abbot leading a new series and other characters, like Mateo Diaz (Jalen Thomas Brooks), getting more spotlight.
A spin-off could even experiment with format, perhaps focusing on a single character or medical case for an entire episode.
