Shang-Chi Sequel in Development Despite Long Delay

As the MCU gears up for major releases like Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday, several smaller franchises that began in the Multiverse Saga have seen little activity.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings introduced director Destin Daniel Cretton and star Simu Liu in 2021, earning $432 million worldwide and setting the Labor Day opening weekend record while receiving widespread praise.

Cretton confirmed that Marvel is "developing a second one," and said the long gap is largely a consequence of the movie industry's extended recovery from the pandemic.

Simu Liu is slated to return to the live-action MCU this year as part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, and after the Multiverse Saga concludes in 2027 the timing of a solo Shang-Chi follow-up remains uncertain.
