The Sennheiser Momentum 5 headphones include a self-replaceable battery, a feature uncommon in premium consumer models. As improvements in noise cancellation and sound quality slow, manufacturers are focusing more on battery performance and power management to stand out.

The 700 mAh battery is located in the left ear cup and is straightforward to access once the earpad — which attaches by grooves rather than magnets — is removed. A precision screwdriver for roughly 2.5mm screws is needed: remove four screws, lift the battery housing and unplug a small connector to remove the pack.

No glue holds it in place; reassemble by reversing the steps. Spare parts and pricing are not yet available. Manufacturers typically do not test over-ear headphones for water or dust ingress, so these models should be assumed vulnerable to moisture. Over-ear designs have openings near headband hinges, microphone housings and ports, and waterproofing is difficult to execute.
