Sega: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds sales 'fell short' of expectations
Sega says Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds' sales fell short of expectations. In its latest financial results the company singled out CrossWorlds and Shinobi: Art of Vengeance as titles that 'fallen short of expectation' despite positive reviews; the games scored 82 and 87 on Metacritic at release.
CrossWorlds was still hovering around the previously announced one million copies sold mark. That total sits well below other recent Sonic releases: Sonic x Shadow Generations sold over three million and Sonic Frontiers sold just under five million, so Sega clearly had higher hopes for the project.
Last year the kart-racer field was crowded, with Mario Kart World and Kirby Air Riders also arriving in 2025. Mario Kart World had sold just under 15 million copies as of March 31 this year, and Kirby Air Riders reached 1.87 million—both figures ahead of Sonic Racing.
