An anonymous tip prompted searchers in Mexico to comb remote areas for Nancy Guthrie after members of Buscando Corazones Nogales, the group that locates missing people, said they were told a grave possibly belonging to the mother of “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie had been found.

Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz, head of the organization, said volunteers began investigating the tip on Wednesday, though the claim has not been confirmed. Authorities have not disclosed any evidence that Nancy, 84, was taken to Mexico or that the reported grave is connected to her disappearance.

Nancy vanished from her Tucson-area home in February; investigators have said they believe she was abducted after finding signs of forced entry and a scene that raised concern, prompting homicide detectives to become involved. The Los Angeles Times reported that blood was found inside the home, but officials have not confirmed whose it was.
