Sean Penn won the Oscar for best supporting actor but did not attend the ceremony. He spent Oscars night in Ukraine, and in a conversation with CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins at the Tribeca festival he said the reason for his absence was a deep dislike of selfies. Penn explained he is uncomfortable in crowds, avoids social groups larger than eight and found the Golden Globes so unpleasant that he decided to stop doing awards shows.
