Scream 7, Psycho Killer and new movies to watch this weekend
It’s a big week for slashers on streaming. Neve Campbell is menaced by Ghostface again in Scream 7, which lands on Paramount Plus after a box office run that was dogged by controversy and a boycott. Survivors of Ghostface’s previous attacks gather to protect Sidney Prescott’s daughter, but the film ditches much of the franchise’s meta humor; a review noted that the town feels oddly underpopulated and a downtown sequence resembles a backlot.
Andrew Kevin Walker, writer of Seven, returns to serial-killer territory with Psycho Killer, a throwback that reaches Hulu under first-time director Gavin Polone. Georgina Campbell plays Highway Patrol officer Jane Archer, who pursues the Satanic Slasher across state lines; the movie blends slasher tropes and ornate on-screen kills, though a review found the converging storylines increasingly incompatible.
Andy Serkis’s long-awaited animated Animal Farm is now available to rent.
