Scary Movie Costume Designer on Reimagining Ghostface

Horror films have shifted a great deal since Scary Movie first arrived, and the 2026 sequel confronted that change as it brought back fan favorites Cindy Campbell, Brenda Meeks, Shorty, and Ray. The production had to decide how those characters would fit into a contemporary horror landscape, a question that stretched beyond the script.

Costumes have long been one of the franchise’s key comedic tools, helping viewers instantly recognize characters and the films being spoofed. For this entry, designer Ariyela Wald-Cohain worked to balance nostalgia, horror references, and character evolution while dressing both returning favorites and a new generation of targets.

New costume sketches were debuted alongside Wald-Cohain’s comments, which spelled out the inspirations behind several looks: Cindy’s Laurie Strode–inspired transformation, Brenda’s Ma‑influenced wardrobe, and Shorty’s cannabis‑covered wedding tracksuit.
