Scarlett Johansson Reboot of '70s Masterpiece Finally Reveals New Title
Scarlett Johansson, who has largely steered clear of horror despite early roles in Eight-Legged Freaks and acclaim in Under the Skin, will star in an upcoming entry in The Exorcist franchise. The new movie comes from Mike Flanagan, creator of The Haunting of Hill House.
Flanagan’s production company, Red Room Pictures, lists the project as The Exorcist: Martyrs, a listing that suggests the subtitle may be official. This is the clearest update so far; earlier set photos surfaced and Flanagan later confirmed production had wrapped with an ambiguous behind-the-scenes photo.
With few plot details available, the subtitle Martyrs is likely to prompt speculation about the story. Previous reports described the project as a reboot that will probably stand on its own rather than directly connect to the 1973 original.
