Bloober Team revealed Saw: Genesis at Summer Game Fest, a 3v1 multiplayer that turns the franchise into a blood-soaked escape room. Three players take the roles of victims trying to flee a maze of death traps while a single Judge manipulates the environment from the shadows.

The game is a prequel set in the 1920s after World War I, an era the developers say fits the story’s themes, though narrative will likely take a back seat to multiplayer. Matches use procedurally generated elements and split players into Accused and Judge roles; the Accused must cooperate to complete objectives, either together or by splitting up and using a ping system.

Each match also includes two challenges that function like the films’ moral “games.” Accused players are blind to the full map and must locate objectives and tools such as screwdrivers to disarm traps, and makeshift weapons to fend off the Judge.
