Saving Private Ryan Now Streaming Free on Pluto TV
Steven Spielberg’s 1998 feature Saving Private Ryan is now available to stream on Pluto TV, a rare free opportunity to watch the film alongside other classics such as The Godfather trilogy, Ordinary People, and Gladiator. The movie won five Academy Awards, including Spielberg’s Best Director trophy, and earned 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, tying it with Raiders of the Lost Ark among the director’s highest-rated films.
It grossed more than $482 million worldwide and was the year’s second highest-grossing movie, behind Armageddon. Based on Robert Rodat’s Oscar-nominated screenplay, the story follows Captain John H. Miller (Tom Hanks) as he leads a battalion from Omaha Beach into Nazi-occupied France to find James Francis Ryan, the sole surviving brother of four killed in action.
High-ranking officers hope to send Ryan home, and the soldiers begin to question whether risking many lives to save one is justified.
