Savannah Guthrie Opens Up About Returning to TODAY After Mother's Disappearance
Viewers tuning in to the fourth hour of TODAY on June 8 saw longtime co-anchor Savannah Guthrie open up about her state of mind as she returned to work after her mother, Nancy, was reported missing on January 31. It has been over four months since the disappearance, and Guthrie returned to the show on April 6 after an extended leave.
Jenna Bush Hager acknowledged Guthries resilience, saying, "I've just marveled as somebody who knows you, and loves you at your strength. You coming back here and leading the ship, which I know has not been easy, and yet, here you are, morning after morning, getting out of bed, spending the mornings with us." Guthrie described the transition as difficult.
"It's really hard to come back," she said while filling in with Sheinelle Jones. "I've been trying so hard to hold it together, and I promise I will." She added, "I'm happy to be back. It's like the two hours of my day it's not that Im not thinking about it, because I am but it's something to do.
