Anthony Head, best known as Rupert Giles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, died suddenly at 72. His daughters, Emily and Daisy, said he “died peacefully of complications due to pneumonia” and added that being his children was “an honor and a privilege,” noting that his “legacy will live on.” Sarah Michelle Gellar wrote on Instagram, “I’m not ok,” after repeating the Season 5 finale line, “Tell Giles I figured it out and I’m ok,” then adding, “Well I don’t have it figured out and I’m not ok.” She thanked Head’s daughters, “Daisy and Emily who not only shared their dad with me, but with the world.” James Marsters called Head “an unflaggingly kind and steady presence” and said, “There’s a hole in the World,” adding that Head “was the best actor in the cast” and “left the world a better place for his presence.” Other co-stars shared memories as well: Emma Caulfield recalled long friendship and quiet wisdom, David Boreanaz wrote, “RIP.
